About the Company...
Backyard Productions was founded over nine years ago by San Diego actors Jessica John, Lauren Zimmerman and Daren Scott. The company was established with a focus on powerful, riskier subject matter and strong female characters.
Backyard Productions is dedicated to producing critically-acclaimed theatrical works by some of the best writers of our time, and has been honored to secure the San Diego Premiere of several of these works - including, Patrick Marber's Closer and Shelagh Stephenson's An Experiment with an Air Pump.
In 2004, Backyard Productions co-produced Sam Shepard's A Lie of the Mind with the highly lauded New Village Arts Theatre. This production was bestowed with both the San Diego Critic's Circle Award and a KPBS Patte Award for "Best Ensemble".
In 2005, Backyard joined forces with San Diego's Diversionary Theatre for the San Diego Premiere of Tony Kushner's A Bright Room Called Day. This production was also honored with a KPBS Patte Award for "Best Ensemble".
Now Backyard returns to San Diego with another San Diego Premiere... Laura Cahill's Hysterical Blindness. A top-notch cast of some of San Diego's best-known actors will bring this witty and tragic story of New Jersey-ites to the stage in Cygnet Theatre's Rolando space, April 20th - May 11th.
